A Vacation By Yourself Can Be Fun, Refreshing, And Keep You Sane
Being a Navy wife can be tough. There are deployments, dets (detachments), workups, late nights, early mornings, and working weekends to deal with. Sometimes the best solution is to get away. Taking a vacation by yourself can really lift your spirits in the midst of the daily grind of military life.
Deployment Vacation By Yourself
One of the best times to travel is while your spouse is deployed. Having a fun trip on the calendar gives you something to look forward to. It’s a milestone that breaks down the length of deployment into smaller bites.
The options are endless. You could plan a cruise with friends, a trip to someplace sunny, or even get away close to home. You can visit family out of town or a friend you haven’t seen in a while. Accepting a weddings invitation is a lot of fun especially if you will know others who will be attending.
I’m planning a trip to Hawaii. It’s like my favorite place on earth. I’m going to stay with a friend whose husband is stationed there. Pippa will be with me, so I’m sure it will be low key. But I’m super excited!
I got an amazing deal on plane tickets that I could not pass it up, so a couple of nights I’m splurging and staying at the Hale Koa. (If you don’t know about the Hale Koa, check it out! It’s a military hotel right on Waikiki with great discounted military rates.) That way I’ll get some pool/beach time.
I will be sure to give you an update when the time comes! =)
When Hubby Is Busy, Navy Wife Travel Keeps You Sane
As a Navy wife travel can help refresh you, even when your spouse is home. Sometimes when they’re home, they’re not really “home,” right? If their jobs demand all their time, travel may be in order.
A quick weekend getaway with some girlfriends can help you escape the busyness, get re-centered, and even give your spouse some space. This is especially important when you don’t have kids. Actually a vacation by yourself is also important when you do have kids. LOL.
I’ve had a lot of fun traveling when my hubby was working. I felt bad leaving him, and I did get a small guilt trip. =) But he was glad I could go see my friends too. I know it’s hard to go away when they’re already gone so much. But we all need our girl time.
It’s hard to demand a lot of our spouses if they are in a season when they’re exhausted from work. If we keep the trips short, a vacation by yourself can do everyone good.
P.S. Now that I have Pippa, I’m not sure how the “take a break from your kids” thing will go yet. I definitely plan to get out. I will keep you posted. (I’d love to hear your suggestions in the comments below!)
Travel To Visit Your Spouse Or Significant Other When They’re Gone
Hubby and I dated long distance. I was in Portland, Oregon and he was stationed in San Diego. I had so much fun visiting him in SD. I think it may be my second favorite place on earth. I have a lot of favorites though.
I also was fortunate enough to visit Adam on deployment when his ship pulled in to Phuket, Thailand. He flew me out– this was also when we were dating. And actually, it’s where he proposed. =) Adam connected me with some other spouses who were on my flight out and back, so we traveled together. The whole trip was a ton of fun.
It’s not possible in all commands to visit on deployment. Some times, there are reasons why spouses can’t visit. But if you have the green light, I say go for it.
I was able to fly out to Japan to visit Adam last deployment. We toured around Tokyo on the subway and saw the sights. Visiting your spouse on deployment really helps break up the time they’re gone.
Making A Vacation By Yourself Happen
In know travel can be expensive. Keep your eyes peeled for good deals on airfare and hotels. Check out MOAA, Costco, and other discount sites for good travel specials. If you have the desire at all, put it in your budget. Save up, even get a part-time job and earn money towards that trip.
I’ve been blessed to travel to some amazing places, but I’ve also done the girls night at my friends’ houses and a quick weekend trip nearby. It is so worth it to enjoy traveling and a vacation by yourself as a navy wife!
