Moving Forward With Hope: Fertility and Housing

Hi! We had a big week last week of moving forward with hope and looking to the future. I had an appointment with my fertility doctor, and we made a big decision about housing for the next two years. We are looking at what’s ahead and facing it with hope and excitement, despite some of the setbacks we experienced in April. It’s May now, and we have a fresh start!

I said it was a big WEEK, but it really all happened on Thursday…

Thursday Morning Fertility Doctor Appointment

Thursday morning, Pippa and I headed off to my fertility doctor for a consultation. Pippa won the hearts of everyone in the office as usual… but when she got squirmy, I pulled out the phone to distract her…

I was really pleased with all we discussed, including whether or not to continue with IUIs (intrauterine insemination) or to start thinking about IVF (in vitro fertilization). As many of you know, IVF is extremely costly, time consuming, and also requires thinking through some rather challenging ethical questions (i.e. what do you do with leftover fertilized eggs, etc).

In addition to the IUI/IVF decision, my regular OB had expressed concern about clotting issues. There was evidence of some major clotting this past month, and my fertility doc went ahead and ordered the genetic testing for clotting disorders. I’m really curious to get the results back, though it’s supposed to take a couple of weeks. Knowing if there is a specific issue would give us some direction, which would be encouraging. I’m just hoping and praying Tricare does indeed cover it, because the testing comes with a hefty price tag.

The doctor also raised the idea of taking blood thinners during pregnancy, which I was already interested in discussing. Ironically, after I had shared my blog post about our miscarriage, I had three people message me and tell me of their success using blood thinners, even without having a conclusive genetic clotting issue. So I was eager to consider this option, especially if it meant avoiding IVF and all the challenges it brings.

At this point we are waiting a month for my body to continue to heal and “reboot” after the miscarriage, in addition to waiting for the genetic testing results. Once we have all the info we can make a plan for moving forward with hope of a future healthy pregnancy!

It seems very daunting starting this process again, especially after the losses. But I’m encouraged and I am feeling much more positive and emotionally ready to pursue it now. I don’t know how many more tries I have in me, but I know I at least have one more, and that’s all I need to know for now.

(I’d be curious if any of you have experienced miscarriages and have used any of the above treatments? Please let me know in the comments below!)

P hanging out with mom at the lab… she was a trooper! The stickers helped keep her happy =)

Thursday Evening Housing Resolution

After the successful appointment Thursday morning, a trip to the lab for the blood draw, and home for a nap for P, we headed out to meet Daddy.

It was time to sign the lease!

We are thrilled to have found a spacious home with a very large yard. It has everything we were looking for and is super close to hubby’s work. I’m really excited to get to know people in the community– I even already went to MOPS nearby and it was a blast to meet so many great ladies! (If you have preschool age kids and are looking for some friends, I encourage you to check it out in your area!)

We have known this move was coming for a while, but we didn’t know exactly where we would end up. I was so ready for the emotional roller coaster of unknown to finally resolve. It feels so great to be moving forward with hope as we actually know when and where we are moving! And since it’s only a month away, now I’m kicking into major purge/organize/pack mode!

Alright, that’s it for now… gotta run while the kiddo is still asleep! Have a great week!

Our latest saga… trying to transition kiddo to toddler bed before we move. It’s been rough so far!

Yes! I have had miscarriages and also ended up using blood thinners ( baby aspirin and heparin & lovenox injections)…

Hey Christina– So sorry to hear. Thanks for sharing. So glad you have your beautiful children! That is what I’ve been hearing– lovenox & heparin. Did you use them throughout the entire pregnancy or just first trimester, etc?
