Military Spouse Wellness Summit Info + A Vital Health Tip

If as a military spouse, you feel like you’re constantly pulled from one duty station, job, role, and emotion to the next, you’re not alone. If it’s a stretch to say you’re finding “balance,” because in reality, you’re in survival mode… I hear you. Wellness is a dream and a goal, but how do you accomplish it amidst the crazy roller coaster we’re on?

I’m excited to introduce you to an upcoming event called the Military Spouse Wellness Summit. It’s an exciting new event where you can join with and learn from people who are going through the same struggles as you, both as a milspouse and in the wellness area.

A Vital Health Tip

What does wellness even mean, and how can you accomplish it when your life as a military spouse is throwing you for a loop?

Wellness is finding how to thrive physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, even when your circumstances aren’t ideal.

For example, one of the most important aspect of wellness is getting enough rest. Everyone knows you need sleep. But the problem is, how do you get enough rest when you have kids waking in the night, your spouse is deployed or you are in the middle of a PCS?

You have to figure out how to thrive in this area, even in less-than-ideal situation. Let’s take a look at how to get more rest when life is going crazy on you:

Sleep Tip- Go to bed at the same time every night

Ok, this would be nice but sometimes it’s not possible with the above mentioned deployments, kids, etc.

Possible Solutions- Go to bed at the same time as many nights as possible, but when you can’t, try these adjustments:

  • Plan to go to bed a few minutes early.
  • Have a quiet time where the kids are in their own rooms and you get a few minutes to take a quick 10 minute nap or get some alone time.
  • Use some calming essential oils before bed to help you fall asleep fast and get the most out of your night, even if it’s interrupted

Military Spouse Wellness Summit Info

You can’t always control your circumstances but you can adapt and adjust. The Military Spouse Wellness Summit is all about just that: understanding your wellness journey in light of your status as a military spouse, and finding ways to adapt.

And the cool thing is, it’s a “virtual” summit, meaning you don’t have to go anywhere to be a part. You can listen from the comfort of home, on a walk, while washing dishes or commuting from work. If you’re ready, go ahead and sign up here!

The summit is put on by InDependent, The Army Wife Network, and The USAA Educational Foundation with a call to “Invest In Yourself.”

The Summit begins Monday, October 19 (which so happens to be my birthday!) and ends Friday, October 23. (psst– there’s a bonus day Saturday when they announce our big-prize winner– yup there are prizes and free stuff just for registering!)

What’s the haps: MSWS have put together a group of ten health, nutrition, fitness, and financial experts who are all eager to help you thrive as a military spouse. EVERY REGISTERED participant receives a 1-year membership to Thrive Market (Retail Value $49) and a chance to win tons of PRIZES by MetLife Dental, MSB New Media, SpouseBox, Elva Publishing, QALO rings, Lucy Activewear, and many more.

Thanks for the tips and the heads-up, Heather! I know sleep is one of my biggest issues (hubby having such an inconsistent schedule doesn’t help), so I’m now motivated to make it more of a priority. 🙂

The summit looks great, too! Looking forward to it!

Sleep is really important. My husband is gone for a two week class and it has been hard with the interrupted sleep and then my son got sick yesterday. I was in bed by 9 and it was the right choice. It is amazing how much sleep can have an impact on your day. Congrats on being selected as one of the wellness warriors. 🙂

Thanks so much! I’m glad you were able to get some extra sleep. Sorry your son got sick! That’s no fun. Hopefully he gets better quickly. And I agree, I always feel so much better when I’ve gotten a good night’s sleep. =)
